The Goa Festival will be held from 18th February to 21st February, 2012. 

 

The Goa Carnival is a much-awaited affair in Goa and is now an inseparable heritage of the state. Its preparations begin from the month of December itself. It is not only music and dance that makes the evenings flashy but some short plays are also composed and enacted. The festival brings out the best of the vibrant culture of Goa. 

 

The 'Carnival' is exclusive and unique to Goa, and was introduced by the Portuguese who ruled over Goa for over five hundred years. The three days and nights carnival, when the legendary king Momo, takes over the state and the streets come alive with music and color. 

 

The festive aura fills every corner of the state. Both men and women are elated. They put on fancy clothes and colourful masks and dance to the music that Romans earlier danced on. The carnival is meant to be a feasting-drinking-merrymaking just before the austere 40 days of Lent.
